About this artwork

It was early in the pandemic and most of the city was still shut down. Taking a walk around the Meatpacking district as it was getting dark, the artist came upon this scene, between the construction site of Thomas Heatherwick’s Pier 55 Park to the south and Pier 57 to the north. He contrasts the movement of the waves with the old piles from Pier 56 to complement the contrasts in the red sky to the blue shadows. The sun and the pier remind us of endings.
