About this artwork
Walking on the New York City streets is always interesting regardless of the time or the weather. Sometimes for me, early morning is best. The streets are just beginning to fill with people going to work or heading out to shop. For this particular scene I wanted to get that early morning and slightly lonely feel. I also strove to capture the look of the wet pavement and the muted colors. I used the lighting in the store windows to contrast their vivid colors with the subdued colors of the street. In a sense, it's like the false world of manikins and accessories is competing with the poetic reality of the city. The painting is varnished, wired and ready for hanging. The edges are a clean white gesso.
