About this artwork
Artist Yelena Sidorova presents vibrant poppies in various stages of growth. "Red poppies, my favorite flower," says Yelena. The vivid glowing shades create a disparate contrast against the bold blue background, diverting the viewer's attention to the intricate petal features. Yelena depicts representational detail in graceful outlines and curves. She made the artwork by painting silk with acrylics and dyes, using black and gold resist to control the colors from spreading. She steamed the piece as a final step to protect and preserve its brightness.
