About this artwork
Artist Yelena Sidorova depicts a woman fascinatingly intrigued with a butterfly on a magical summer evening. The geisha dons a beautiful butterfly kimono and gracefully grips a paper parasol as she takes delicate strides in the garden. The gentle and mysterious image evokes joy, peace, and harmony. "Harmony to me is the poetry of lines and colors that has a life of its own," says Yelena.
She made the artwork by painting silk with acrylics and dyes, using black and gold resist to control the colors from spreading. She steamed the piece as a final step to protect and preserve its brightness.
