About this artwork
What strikes the viewer first is the smooth and dark gray background of this watercolor painting, states artist Swarup Dandapat. The buildings seem to have overlapped on one another. There is not a single hard edge to be found in all the architecture. Instead, it seems as if someone has spilled ink on the buildings, producing a curiously liquid effect. It continues on to the street, the passing cars, and the pedestrians, turning an everyday New York street into a soft, melting, and moving urban landscape.
