About this artwork

Artist Jamal Sultan paints this hardscrabble urban landscape entirely in water-mixable oils on Arches Oil Paper. This technique, in a semi-monochromatic palette, combines the spontaneity of watercolor with the workability of oil paint. Jamal uses several techniques commonly applied in printmaking to render the intricate shapes of buildings.
