About this artwork

Artist Jamal Sultan paints this little street scene of a mountainside neighborhood in the glow of the setting sun. Using both a photo and sketch as references, Jamal creates depth in work at least twice its size. When working small, it becomes more about the paint and less about the compositional details or the subject. It's a much more intimate process, says Jamal. If you pay attention to the actual paint, it all comes together on its own.
