About this artwork
What first struck me about this scene was how the shadows from the gas pumps fanned out from their light source, being the last full rays of the sun going down behind the mountains. All the elements were in just the right place at the right time to evoke that late afternoon feeling in a road side oasis. I kept the extraneous details to a minimum so that the late afternoon polarized light would easily take center stage.
