About this artwork
These apartments are actually downtown, but I always thought they'd be better in the tranquil setting of the sea, Mitchell says of his inspiration for this painting. I used to pass them every day on my way to some place that I can't remember anymore; The Solarium Apartments became much more important over time. It's the places that we pass in our daily lives that become invisible through reputation and we don't really see them anymore. Mitchell suggests looking more closely at these sights the next time. Those are the scenes and places that are the most important later on in life.
