About this artwork

Artist Mitchell Freifeld takes the viewer on a road trip around the northwest, taking random turns in any direction on the oldest roadsÑno plans or destination. The Elm Motel comes into view. A mom-and-pop enterprise that has made one concession to progressÑfree TV. The greatest gift is finding the little towns that have escaped the march of time and retain that lemonade on the front porch on a lazy summer afternoon feeling, says Mitchell. In the morning, there were home-baked muffins.
