About this artwork

Athena lives at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History and comes out in the yard to pose every afternoon. I visit her often, and particularly like this direct curious gaze. I painted her in her natural colors with the complex detail of her body feathers in sharp contrast to the lack of detail, except for shadows, in her face.
