About this artwork
Why is this bird with a clearly white breast so named? Because it's never in breeding plumage in Santa Barbara; I guess you have to go to the high Arctic to see its true colors. But these are still beautiful quite solitary shorebirds; often I'll only see one during a walk on the beach. They eye you carefully when in camera range and keep their distance but hardly ever fly away. Painted on deckled edge paper so the piece can either be floated or matted behind glass.
