About this artwork

The Galap‡gos hawk (Buteo galapagoensis) is the same genus and size as the North American Red-tailed Hawk, but a little darker, explains artist Emil Morhardt. It has a similar threatening gaze. Emil captured a photo of the bird placidly sitting on a log just a few feet away from where he stood on a Galap‡gos island beach in Ecuador. He then painted the magnificent creature on a very light cafŽ au lait-colored background.
