About this artwork

Painted to the edges on heavy watercolor paper. Terroir is a French term meaning a sense of place, and refers to all the natural elements that give a wine, for instance, its unique tastes. Here I have tried to capture a taste of the land of the Livermore Valley in California where grapes grow well. The rolling hills that capture some of the Pacific influence take on a distinctive dusty purplish cast in late summer, early autumn, before the rains begin, and, of course, the vines go golden.
