About this artwork

This studio painting was inspired by earlier Plein Air work I did on O’ahu in Hawaii. Boats fascinate me, making me wonder about the places they have traveled. The light on these boats created interesting shadows and reflections, which inspired me to experiment with the texture. I worked in many layers, and used brushes, palette knives, rollers, and squeegees to create a variety of marks representing my impression of a warm morning by the harbor
