About this artwork

This oil painting of white water rapids is done with a palette knife and limited, saturated colors: ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow, white, and tiny amounts of cadmium orange for highlights. Knife painting creates a thick impasto on the surface. Sunlight is inferred in a thicket of woods in the background, while the foreground takes center stage with white water cascading through the forest. The energetic manner in which the paint is applied gives this work the organic feel of the outdoors.
