Paula Martino | Artist Profile Photo
Paula Martino
North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania
Artist Paula Martino captures vibrant scenes of people and places with compelling compositions and value patterns. I feel motivated by them, and they reflect the energy and emotions I feel, says Paula. Through colors and visual textures, she intends to uplift the viewer with her works. After a three-decade career as a CPA, Paula decided to pursue her art practice fully, studying in earnest with nationally recognized colorists, portrait artists, and landscape painters. Her creative routine includes attending figure painting sessions, participating in online mixed-media critiques, and joining a local plein air group. Paula often listens to podcasts while working in the basement studio built by her husband, accompanied by organized paints, supplies, and a wall-mounted easel. In her free time, she enjoys cooking healthy dishes, going to the gym, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Artist Statement

Inspired by people and nature, my paintings are a dichotomy of faces and places. They reflect my energy and emotions when I see a compelling scene and capture it with color and visual texture. I'm motivated by people and their activities, and having lived in western Pennsylvania all my life, I love to paint trees and water. I like to use thick paint and often use a palette knife when applying color in oil or acrylic. I prefer saturated colors with just enough neutrals to spotlight or contrast the center of interest if there is one. My landscape work leans toward semi-abstract and impressionistic and originates through actual experience using on-sight sketches or painting plein air. My interest lies in abstracting the landscape using collages and stencils in a loose, open-ended approach. I intend to uplift people when they see what I create.
