Light breaks through clouds over the ocean. Cool and warm shades of blue with yellow highlights appear in the sky, water and sand. While walking the beach, North Carolina artist Nancy Hughes Miller finds inspiration for her coastal paintings. “I take many photos of my surroundings and use them as references,” she says, “but while painting in the studio, it’s my imagination that completes the scene.”
