This is part of John's Pierrot series, all done with the same model, a close friend of the artist. Each painting focusses on a different mood, seeking to penetrate a deeper psychological significance. The pierrot makeup adds a mythic dimension to the series, alternately concealing and revealing a deeper meaning.
