About this artwork

In this painting, David used his signature negative painting style to capture the mechanical environment of a bridge. He gessoed the canvas in black and then painted around the areas he intended to be black. The bridge was not painted - the space around it was painted. The soft glowing light and absence of people play up the industrial quality of the scene.
