About this artwork

A contemplative portrait rendered in bright oranges and green. Artist Gary Leonard first developed the abstract background and then worked the figure into the composition. "The process allows me to incorporate many of the background colors into the figure, creating a merging of the figure and background," he explains. "I was inspired by a warm summer afternoon."
