About this artwork

Sweeping panoramic view of the Oregon Coast above the charming oceanside village of Manzanita. I was interested in the geometric shapes created on the sand by the movement of the tides. The painting also explores the translucency of the ocean with its palette of blues/aqua/purple, and of the white foam of the incoming tide overlying both the water and the sand. The village itself is loosely suggested in an impressionistic fashion. The composition is built on a diagonal following the crescent of the beach and its arc up to a focal point where the sand and the mountains come together in a distant haze. The sky has a captivating glow at the horizon and ethereal clouds that sweep across the sky, moving the eye in the direction of the distant focal point.
