About this artwork

This non-textbook illustration of the human heart's spiritual anatomy depicts it in it's purest state. When we arrive in this world, we seem to have no pretense, no expectations, no judgements. We are pure love....easy, simple, boundless, and raw. As we grow, most of the time, it may be obscured by life's various situations, and many times, it may feel distorted or even absent, but that does not mean that it is. Our sensory perceptions are powerful magicians that fool us into thinking unkind and powerless things sometimes. Phineas and Eloise illustrate the inner workings of the benevolent human spirit which I believe exists in some form within everyone throughout our lives. The sides are finished with the torn, yellowed pages of a novel, painted over with transparent red/orange acrylic. Hints of this peek through the face of the painting as well.
