About this artwork

A gracefully aged robot is sort of a contradiction in terms. As machines get older, they tend to break down and we either repair or replace them. But these two have aged the way we humans like to age...with grace, acceptance of change, and keeping their focus on the beautiful world outside of their squeaky parts. Granted, not all of us are able to do this, but those who can seem to understand something...some magic concept that keeps them vibrant no matter if their physical bolts get a little rusty or not. A beautiful day in the park, the joviality of the dancing pigeons, and the dignity and confidence of the couple's attire and stature, are all meant to celebrate how life can begin at 60. Depending on our individual outlooks, like these 'bots, we can all have lots to look forward to. Bob and Thelma were my grandparents. Grandpa collected canes and was tall, slender and dignified with a clever wit and dry humor. Grandma loved purple and she was exuberant, warm and loving. She made us all sorts of yummy things to eat. They loved us dearly, and in hindsight, they both fit the mold of storybook grandparents. I did not start this piece with them in mind, but as I was finishing and searching for a title, I realized all the similarities, and the title became obvious. The sides are finished with randomly cut and collaged graphics of beautiful landscapes and skies. The work comes wired and ready to hang.
