About this artwork
Doug says of this pastoral American landscape, On Highway 2 along the Androscoggin River in Maine is the village of Rumford Center, where there is a small United Church. Its simple design and white facade are an iconic symbol of 19th century America. The church hasn't changed over the years, but the surroundings have. This painting is how I perceive the church and things were back in the simpler times when agriculture was the primary livelihood of its parishioners.
