About this artwork
"It is fascinating that sins are nothing more than someone or some institution labeled as wrong," says artist Sumner Crenshaw. She paints a powerful portrayal of a figure embracing her faults, with curved and straight lines evoking a sense of movement in the composition. "I think being in touch with our dark side is how we grow and create," adds Sumner. Sin-eating was a ritual practice, with the idea that a deceased person can be cleansed of their wrongs when another person consumes their vices.
