About this artwork

This upscale version of supermarket sushi has a bit more variety in the nigiri section: tuna, salmon, bluefin tuna, shrimp, bonito, mackerel, imitation crab, surf clam (the latter two draped with a ribbon of nori or seaweed), are the freshly caught and sliced offerings. Instead of the usual maki (rice concoctions surrounded by nori), it offers uramaki in which rice is the outer layer surrounding the filling and nori. Showcased against a black background, this sushi looks stunningly gem-like.
