About this artwork

I am obsessed with oysters--not just with their delicious briny flavor, but with the individual empty shells as well. This particular example comes from the waters of Matagorda Bay, off the Gulf of Mexico in Texas. While still wet, its iridescence was magnificent. Trying to capture the everchanging purples and whites of the inner shell was a challenge, but that is what makes painting this wonderful bivalves so interesting.
