About this artwork
To most people, Greek mythology's famous rebellious son is a metaphor for caution and prudence; a warning of the danger of hubris. But then there are others who throw caution to the proverbial wind and strive for achievement, no matter the cost. The female Icarus in this painting falls into this latter camp: she clings to the sun, smiling as her wings burn. To her, reaching the sun was all that mattered; she was happy to burn up, rather than never fly high enough.
