About this artwork

This piece was made by observing and copying a map of Washington, and was painted without the aid of rulers or straight edges. For me, the piece is about taking something exact and utilitarian, and recreating it by hand in a traditional art form. I used earth tones to reflect the imperfect humanness of that idea. The title is painted on the back and the painting is wired and ready to hang.
