About this artwork

Waves crash against the shore, their white foam contrasting with the deep blues and greens of the ocean. Dynamic diagonal strokes burst into the sky, adding energy to the scene. Seagulls gather on the wet sand while sailboats glide in the distance. Artist Lisa Elley captured this moment en plein air at Monterey Beach, California, using a palette knife to give the composition a rich, textured quality.
