About this artwork
During a recent trip to Ireland's Aran Islands, I visited the awe-inspiring prehistoric site known as Dun Aonghasa. It is named for Aengus, the ancient Irish god of love and poetry. Inspired by this place and the mythology surrounding it, I created this painting depicting Aengus, this time as a goddess. She is surrounded by songbirds-as Aengus was typically described as having birds flying around him- and her arms transform into powerful wings, in a nod to the myth of Aengus and his lover Caer.
