About this artwork
Red Oaks and Hickory trees stand tall in my wintry landscape. The twisted limbs of Burr Oaks cast shadows on their own trunks. A sea of Big Blue Stem and Indian grass rises above the snow cover. Heavy seed pods on the long stalks of cone flowers stand ready to feed hungry birds. An old English traditional song goes like this.... In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, in the bleak midwinter, long ago. Snowy winter paintings appeal to me. I love painting them. That lovely old song with the haunting melody inspired A Sense of Snow. Have you heard Sarah McLachlan sing In the Bleak Midwinter”? You'll know what I mean. This piece is on gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. It comes varnished and ready to hang.
