About this artwork

Looking straight at the viewer, Simba dares you to love him, says artist Lee Smith. She paints a mischievous orange tabby with bright green eyes and a pearly white grin. He stares ahead with a yellow happy glow radiating from his body as he sits against a purple bespeckled background. With varying methods, Lee develops her striking animal paintings by incorporating different mediums, scraping, dry-brushing, and blending to and forth as she builds up layers of interest. It results in bold captivating pieces with rich colors and strong contrasts.
