About this artwork

Animal symbolism is a theme in my current work. Lemurs represent family, relationships, and building and fostering home life, which I have been doing a lot of lately. The zebra, on the other hand, is exotic and wild. Putting the two together represents my desire to be "mommy" and a homebody, but also maintain my independence and wild side as much as I can. Often, when women become mothers, they completely lose themselves in the role (which is understandable because it is consuming). For me it is important to preserve myself as an individual with my own wishes, dreams and desires that reach outside of just my motherly role and duties.

This piece is painted on a cradled wood panel with finished black edges. It comes varnished and ready to hang.
