About this artwork

A winter scene of endangered whooping cranes. They migrate from summer nesting sites in Canada and the northern Midwestern US to the Gulf Coast every year. Nearly hunted to extinction in the early 20th century, they were brought back from the brink by dedicated scientists and conservationists. This portrait is dedicated to the beauty of the cranes, and the determination that such beauty not be lost from the world.
