About this artwork

This is a calf from a herd I met in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, shares artist Heather Foster. I wanted the bold underpainting to show through and give a distinctive personality to this young calf. His features are descriptive, and gestural at the same time. The background is loosely completed to give a softer effect to his surroundings.
