Artist Statement
I create figurative modern art using acrylics on canvas, exploring the profound complexities of human relationships and emotions through fragmented, abstract figures and intricate symbolism. Inspired by the every day—the stories we see in mass media, the experiences shared in news, and the nuances of daily interactions—I am drawn to express myself in a way that bridges personal experience with universal meaning. Influenced by the visual languages of Cubism, Symbolism, Surrealism, and geometric abstraction, I create compositions that invite viewers into a dynamic, introspective journey.
My work centres on the themes of identity, memory, power, and resilience. The figures in my art are fragmented yet interconnected, woven together to reflect life’s dualities—hope and despair, love and loss, peace and struggle. Using symbolism and bold yet muted tones, I strive to evoke reflection on human resilience, encouraging each viewer to explore and interpret the symbols and emotions embedded in each piece. My art becomes a space where individual narratives meet collective experiences, offering viewers a moment to find personal resonance within the broader stories I tell.
My journey as an artist began in my early years, a path shaped by the intersection of my Cuban heritage and the cultural shifts I experienced after immigrating to the United States. This blend of cultures has profoundly influenced my worldview, inspiring me to explore identity and connection through art. As a self-taught artist, I have spent years refining my craft, transforming my story and heritage into a visual language that speaks to both the personal and the universal.
