Artist Statement

My Eve-O-Lution Series began as an endeavor to paint the female subject in various styles from classical oils to stylized Art Nouveau. I named it Eve-O-Lution because it was as much an exploration of artistic expression as it was an attempt at capturing beauty. In my many years as a book illustrator and portrait artist, I developed a deep love for painting the human subject. In this series, which I now consider to be my life's work, I use all the techniques, mediums, and styles that I have acquired in thirty years to try to capture the evanescent quality of the female face and form. It's a struggle I never tire of! I have learned to hone my photography skills along the way as I start with live models in my studio trying to maximize the effectiveness of lighting to sculpt their forms to create the most beautiful and dramatic results. I have been influenced by many figurative artists: Klimt with his use of geometric shapes and gold; Mucha, known for his beautiful Art Nouveau pieces; the Pre-Raphaelites such as Waterhouse; and even fantasy illustrators like Frank Frazette.
