Pamela Blaies | Artist Profile Photo
Pamela Blaies
Colleyville, Texas
Pamela Blaies unexpectedly discovered her passion for art. A move with her family put her children in sad spirits, so to cheer them up she painted murals on their bedroom walls. With time, she began looking forward to painting more and more. She works in “alla prima” style, a technique in which artists don't wait for paint to dry and work with layers of wet paint. The effects of light and shadows in the world greatly influence her work.

Artist Statement

I create representational oil paintings using an alla prima technique. This means each piece is completed while the paint is still wet. The time limitation of this technique motivates an energetic pace in my work and helps to keep my inspiration fresh. Using this wet-on-wet technique, I employ thin, transparent washes and impasto texture to add depth and visual interest to my paintings. Expression and gesture are intriguing to me. I strive to create the impression of emotion, mood, or feeling in my work and subtly suggest that there may be more to the story. By dancing between the lines of realism and abstraction to develop each narrative, I hope to engage the imagination and connect on a more personal level.
