Maximilian Damico | Artist Profile Photo
Maximilian Damico
Brno, Moravia, Czech Republic
Artist Maximilian Damicio captures impressionist cityscapes imbued with the energy and vibrations of lively everyday scenes. He commands the brush with brisk strokes that exemplify the passage of every shifting element of his plein air studies. Essential to his technique, he finishes every composition in one go. Maximilian graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and traveled the world to mature his ever-evolving approach. “The Key in my work is the freedom–well, the illusion of freedom–free movements and unrestricted ideas,” reveals Maximilian. He creates extemporary visions with a general projection defined by contemporary architecture concepts–a kind of landscape architect. Maximilian primarily paints on location but every so often finishes his work at his home studio. Whether in nature, remote cities, or villages around the globe, he revels in traveling and adventure. Maximilian has been highlighted as a featured artist of Artoo Arts Visibility in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. His inspiring pieces have been exhibited in different countries, from London, Belgium, and Peru to Kazakhstan and Costa Rica.

Artist Statement

I primarily work on location, often creating multiple sketches of the same subject before completing it in my studio. It's crucial for me to finish a painting in one go; this is essential to my technique. I'm not concerned with famous landmarks; I enjoy walking to discover aesthetic details and engaging interplays of shadow and light. I approach my paintings using a dual palette of warm and cool colors, leveraging the contrast to achieve a compelling three-dimensional and tactile effect. I strive to move my brush as swiftly as possible to capture the dynamic movements I observe in reality, infusing my paintings with the energy and vibrancy I perpetually seek in my work. A little about me: I was born in southern Italy and pursued painting courses at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. After obtaining my Fine Art Diploma, I embarked on a journey to connect with the international art scene. I explored various cities, including Barcelona, London, Paris, New York, and Prague, each contributing to developing my unique style, characterized by semi-abstract elements and expressionist techniques. For five years, I roamed in search of visibility, collaboration, and art gallery opportunities. Despite achieving success, a sense of dissatisfaction grew within me—a persistent artistic itch. In response, I returned to my hometown on the Amalfi Coast, Italy, where I playfully entered a watercolor art contest despite never having tried this medium. Instantly, I fell in love with it, embarking on a self-taught journey. I honed my technique by observing and learning from past masters like G. Gigante and J. Sargent, as well as contemporary Australian artists. Watercolor transformed my inner world and reshaped my perception of the external world. In the past year, I received awards in Austria and Spain and conducted workshops in Italy and Prague. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to the fluid world of watercolor.
