Joyanna Margo
Scarborough, Maine
Artist Joyanna Margo presents a playful view of nature around her home through her vibrant, abstract flower paintings. Her process, which involves little planning, begins with meaningful words scrawled on the canvas and gradually builds with layers of acrylic paint. "My bouquets reflect the joy and the story that it can grow from any beginning, whether sad, happy, angry, or empowered," says Joyanna. She paints in her studio in Scarborough, Maine. When not doing art, Joyanna enjoys cooking, hiking, gardening, shopping with her daughter, coffee with friends, and playing fetch with her Goldendoodle.

Artist Statement
I find inspiration in mountains, forests, and the sea, but my art is all about intuitive flowers. I am a mixed media, negative space, abstract floral artist.
My vibrant, intuitive paintings begin completely abstract and gradually take form as they progress. The final stages in negative-space painting take the longest, as random patterns and colors are crafted into a chaotically balanced bouquet, bursting with life.
I paint with acrylics and various water-based media, at times incorporating collage. While I continue to create my florals, I am branching out to other genres both abstract and representational, with the same depth of layering and intuitive, bright spirit.
