Gail Greene | Artist Profile Photo
Gail Greene
New Port Richey, Florida
Gail Greene's paintings rarely end up the way she started them. After an initial block in, she steps back and studies the canvas. Whether it's adding a spontaneous waterfall or painting new cliffs, she's usually tinkering with something. Her intention with art is simple – to make the viewer feel good. When she's not making art, Gail has her hands in many different pots. She's a retired realtor, currently owns and operates a pet sitting service, and loves working in the garden in her spare time. The easel, though, is where Gail lets herself get lost.

Artist Statement

My paintings incorporate a blend of Tonalism and Impressionism and reflect my mood and emotions. I gain my inspiration from nature. However, my work is never a duplicate of what I visually see, but rather an interpretation based on a sensation, idea, or impression of a particular location or photograph. I mostly paint rural scenes -- nature that we have not yet destroyed. I want my work to convey a message of peace and harmony yet contain energy and movement. My father, who painted as a hobby, introduced me to oil paint at the age of eleven. I have worked in watercolor and acrylic, but prefer oil because I find it less restrictive, allowing me to express myself more freely. I am a retired Realtor with college degrees in English Education and English Literature. I currently own and operate a pet sitting service with the help of my son, which gives me ample time to paint. I can't envision my life without painting. At my easel, I'm lost in my work. It's exciting yet relaxing. And energizing but calming. The world of art truly unlocks my imagination.
