About this artwork

The setting of this painting is in the Manhattan branch of the New York City Public Library. This venerable institution has a grandeur in art and architecture that reflects the priceless collection that it houses. I was mindful of the Dutch master interior painters like De Hooch and Van Vliet. I wanted to capture the natural light streaming through the windows complemented by the incandescent light. I was influenced by the Dutch Masters exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
