About this artwork

This is a corner in the Whitney Museum. The composition is dominated by the afternoon light falling on the back wall, and all the diagonal lines. A woman encounters a sculpture of a woman’s head and they seem to be regarding each other. You become aware of different spaces: the viewer is in a separate space from the figures, the space between the figures, as well as the exterior space visible through the window.
