About this artwork

Artist Onelio Marrero depicts the backstage of a ballet recital - a familiar scene in which he has assisted. The painting captures one of those moments of preparation before a dance from Swan Lake. He arranges the setting to take the viewer from the partial figures in the immediate foreground to the other figures and backdrop. The young dancers prepare for an adaptation of the Dance of the Cygnets. The subtleties of color and textures of the tutus and the exciting brushwork keep the viewer engaged.
