New Artist Spotlight: Karen Hale and Colin Marx

Every week, UGallery releases new art from current artists and welcomes new artists to the community. We love seeing what each new week will bring. Say “Hello” to Karen Hale and Colin Marx. These are UGallery’s newest artists! Read on below to learn a little bit more about their work.

Karen Hale. Jackson, California.

Karen Hale is turning Abstract Expressionism into a contemporary movement with her rigorous dedication to depth, texture, and color. Karen is searching for deeper meaning in her abstractions to express herself as well as help her viewers find their own expression. She says, “I hope to strike a chord with my viewer so that they are intrigued and mesmerized by what they are seeing.”

Colin Marx. Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A Colin Marx painting meets all the requirements for a standard portrait; they are life size compositions of people from the chest up. However, Colin’s art is far from typical. His original and personal approach to the portrait is as individualistic as his subject matter. After scraping and smearing oil paints to create the forms of characters he admires, the finished painting is thick with layers that can raise up to 2 inches off the surface. With such layering, Colin’s portraits do what any great portrait should: capture the essence of a person. He says, “I paint how it feels to be a person.”
