Matthias Christensen - Bottom Turn, 2013
Matthias Christensen is a relatively new artist on UGallery. He is talented in a variety of media, but is primarily an acrylic painter. Matthias earned his BFA in illustration at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. His painting is extremely expressive, using bold colors and marks to create a truly unique look. We recently got in touch with Matthias to discuss who and what inspires him. Read more below.
What is your earliest art memory?
Earliest art memory was my dad teaching me how to draw a cowboy when I was 3 or 4 years old and then I drew cowboy figures for several weeks.
Who and what inspires you?
I am inspired by surfing/surf culture, music and of course other artists especially Jenny Saville and Alex Kanevsky.
What is one word to describe your art?
Bold, or Colorful
What is your favorite piece in your UGallery portfolio?
My favorite piece in my portfolio is “The Mad Cellist.”

What do you want people to know about your art?
I want people to know that my art is a reflection of my life and my experiences.

For fun, I take snowboarding over skiing given my surfing background.
